Bansky Paintings

In the picture above, Bansky has created graffiti on the wall in Isrial that is more of a comical painting. He puts an image of "cut here" on the wall to motivate people to want to get through the wall. The reason he may have put it here is because the wall is a symbol of denial, and people should want to "cut" through the wall and get to the other side. Another reason the location was a good for his art is because the large amount of people that gather by it. In this picture alone, you can that there is least a hundred people who are gathered already. Everyone will see his work and remember it now.

Mona the multi-speaker

In the interview, I got the opportunity to ask Mona different questions about her language. Mona was originally from Egypt. Growing up, her common language spolek in her family was Egyptian. When her family and her moved to the states, her father picked up English with his Egyptian. As for her mother, she was more fluent in Spanish and Egyptian. Over time her mother picked up English just by daily living. Mona continued to grow up speaking English because it is the standard language in America, but she could always communicate to her parents in Egyptian whenever she wanted to. As for her parents, they too speak English in the workplace, but when they were back in Egypt, finish later......

It's a Wedding!

Now let’s take a good look at this engagement invitation. It is obvious that flowers are the most obvious graphic on the card. To add to the flowers, the couple decided to use a pink font for the print. There is a good chance that the woman was the creator of this card and wanted it to appeal more towards her girlfriends. The man obviously wants everyone he knows to come, but the point of the card for guys is to inform them. In a woman’s eyes, she will clearly get the message of the wedding, but she is going to go the extra mile too. She would look the invite over numerous time and “grade it.” She will be the one to determine if the pink flowers and butterflies was a good idea or not. That is why most wedding invitations and accessories are created to appeal to the woman’s likes.

Getting Personal

In “Getting Personal,” Irene Taylor discusses how the personal essay comes from one’s true feelings. The real events in a person’s life can be talked about in one’s essay so readers can relate or compare their own lives to the writer’s. Irene makes a good point at doing this when she says,

                “I finally let go of the job I had struggled so long to keep. There’s something

about being a member of the working class and finding yourself

among the working poor that puts your life in perspective. You have

little time to recognize or even cope with the loss of a job. Your first

priority is to meet your financial responsibilities in any manner available

to you. When I left my job I had no options for work save the world

of temp services—minimum wage, no benefits, and no long-term

security.”  (Irene, Getting Personal, Pg. 22)

The reason I see this as a good point is because I can relate to her writing now. She writes about how she lost her job, but instead of grieving and feeling sorrow, she gains a level-head and understands her priorities in her life. I have never lost a job and had to worry about finances, but there have been situations where I had no choice but to cut my luck and start fresh. This is similar to what Irene talks about, she understands her present dilemma and buckles down and gets to work.

Different Languages

In my family, we speech (as far as I know) standard English. We always have spoke the same way. Both my parents grew up in the same area that I lived in, so it seemed like it was just passed on from them to me. Speaking standard English my entire life has made it grow on me. At this point, even if I tried, I do not think I could gain a different dialect or accent in my speech. Any subtle phrases or traits in my speech could be from an Irish heritage/background. When ever I leave the state, someone does tend to tell me, "you have a Chicago accent!" Obviously I never noticed this, but someone always tells me of how I same certain words differently. I then share with them some differences I hear in their speech too. Though, at school, I never hear much of a difference between students. Many speak standard English too, but even the textbooks and stories are written in standard English also.

Dave Bagger's Wakeboarding Bananzza

    Dave Bagger is one of my oldest cousins, and he is one of the best people to be around. At any time he can make you feel stupid or feel like a champion. Everyone knows it is just how he talks to other people, but his whitey ways are very enjoyable. Many times, he'll be at our lake house on Lake Delavan and tellme how I better not screw my entire life up by knocking a girl up or robbing a bank. I'm not too worried about that, but I guess it comes from the heart.
    While at Delavan, the number one thing we enjoy together is wakeboarding on the lake. Dave has always been great at it, and now he wants me to be even better. Every time we are out riding, I enjoy every second of it, and if I fall, all he typically tells me is, "Stop sucking" or "Be a man and don't fall so much." Again, it would be mean to anyone else, but I love the critisism.
    He will turn the boat around and get me back up on the board and we are off again. I will sit behind the boat....... WILL BE CONTINUED

The Spanish Ways

In the reading, Myriam Marquez talks about how keeping one's native luanguage is important for someone and their family. Just because someone immigrates into America shouldn't mean they aren't allowed speak their original luanguage anymore. That seems silly that Myriam would be looked down apon due to the reason that her mother and her speak spanish in public. It, also, seems rediculous that Americans are so rude and make the assumption that spanish speakers are instantly talking about them. We need to understand that most can speak English, it is just easier and more respectable go continue speaking in their naturally tongue.
